Read PDF Out Loud (readpdfoutloud.com) reads PDFs aloud. This page explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the service, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Your account. If you sign in with Google: your name, email address and profile photo. If you sign in with an emailed link: your email address.
- Your PDFs and what's made from them. The PDFs you add, and the text, page images, summaries and narration audio made from them.
- Your reading. Where you left off in each document, your reading settings (voice, speed, font, theme and switches), and how many pages you've added this month.
- Technical data. Our host keeps server logs of requests, including IP addresses. Google Analytics counts which pages and screens are opened (such as the home page, the tutorial, the library or the reader); it never receives document names or contents.
How we use it
To run the service: to read your PDFs aloud, keep them in your library, remember your place and settings, apply the monthly page allowance, and keep the service secure and working. We don't sell your data, and we don't use your documents to train models.
Who helps us run the service
- Google Cloud and Firebase host the site, handle sign-in and store your account and documents, in the United States.
- Z.ai reads the pages of the PDFs you add and writes the summaries of figures, tables and equations.
- Cartesia turns the text you listen to into speech.
- Google Analytics counts page views, as described above.
We send them only what they need for their part of the service.
How long we keep it
Your documents stay until you delete them or delete your account. The audio of sentences you listen to is kept in a shared cache for up to 90 days, so a sentence is never voiced twice; it isn't linked to your account. Server logs are kept for up to 30 days.
Your choices
You can delete any document from your library, or delete your account and everything in it from the account menu, at any time. For anything else, including a copy of your data, write to us.
Children
The service isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
